jack p. shepherd will take a short break from Coronation Street while Hanni Treweek prepares to give birth in June 2026. The pause also gives him time to let his latest hair transplant heal.
Shepherd has played David Platt since 2000, giving the move weight for a character who has been on screen for 26 years. The baby will be his fourth child, while it is the couple’s first together.
June 2026 for Hanni Treweek
Treweek and Shepherd announced the pregnancy with an Instagram video and the caption, “We’ve been keeping a secret…June 2026”. The post showed them in formal wear, cradling her baby bump and holding knitted cream baby booties.
In 2020, Treweek said, “When kids are involved you need to have those serious conversations quite quickly, but we knew early on we wanted to have children together and we were serious about each other,” which gives this pregnancy a long setup rather than a rushed reveal.
David Platt on pause
Shepherd also said on the On The Sofa podcast that neither he nor Treweek had chosen a baby name yet. “It was suggested, I actually thought it would be funny…David. David P Shepherd. Don't you think that would be f***ing brilliant? The balls, the ballsy-ness!” he said, before adding, “No, you avoid picking baby names based on people you don't like.”
Craig Smith floated “P” as a middle name and suggested “Davina” if the baby is a daughter, but Shepherd did not move the discussion beyond joking. For Coronation Street, the practical effect is simple: David Platt goes off-screen for a short break while the actor handles the birth window and recovery at the same time.
Jack P Shepherd and the break
The combination of a family arrival and a cosmetic recovery is the friction point here. One demands attention now, the other asks for healing time, and that is why this is a short absence rather than a longer exit from the soap. The job stays intact, but the schedule bends around the home front.
