The UK Health Security Agency issued heat health alerts uk for the East Midlands, the East of England, London and the south-east from Wednesday 17 June until Monday 22 June. Temperatures are forecast to reach around 30C in parts of central and eastern England, with the main burst of heat expected later in the week.
East Midlands and London
The yellow alerts cover four English regions for six days, giving health and social care services time to prepare for hotter weather. The agency said the alerts are intended to help those services get ready for the higher demand that is likely in the East Midlands, the East of England, London and the south-east.
Forecasts suggest the warmest spell will arrive on Thursday and Friday, after a cooler week last week. The UK is expected to feel warmer than it did last week, with drier weather on the cards for many and highs of around 30C in some places.
Central England Forecast
Parts of central and eastern England are expected to see highs near 30C, or 86F. The forecast also points to low to mid-20s Celsius more widely, with the warmest temperatures more likely later in the week than at the start.
The practical step for people in the four alert regions is simple: expect the heat to build later in the week and plan around the period from Thursday through Monday 22 June. The warning is not nationwide, but it does cover the areas where services are most likely to face extra demand.
