Prince Edward County released the canada day PECelebrates schedule, setting out events from June 14 to July 1 across the county. The lineup includes Pride, Indigenous history, multiculturalism and July 1 programming in several communities.
Residents and visitors can move through the series from a Pride Picnic & Skate Social in Demorestville to the parade and music events in Wellington. The county’s update also points people to named locations, times and contact details for those taking part in the Wellington parade.
Demorestville To Picton
The first listed event is the Pride Picnic & Skate Social, set for 12 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, June 14 at the rink behind the Sophiasburgh Town Hall in Demorestville. The free event is open to everyone and will include roller skating, rentals, a DJ playing Pride tunes, a special guest roller and dance on wheels instructor, a special guest Drag Queen, outdoor lawn games, a selfie station, picnic treats, contests and prizes.
On June 20, the Bay of Quinte Regional Pride Festival will run from 1 pm to 5 pm at Crystal Palace. A Pride Parade will take place earlier that day, from 12 pm to 1 pm on Picton Main Street between Lake Street and the Crystal Palace.
Macaulay Heritage Park Events
Revel runs throughout June as an annual festival celebrating diversity in the County, with events in every corner of the island. Produced by The County Museums, it includes programming tied to Indigenous Peoples Day, Indigenous History Month and Multiculturalism Day.
At Macaulay Heritage Park, Art In Conversation: Student Responses to A Path Forward runs from June 1 to June 30. That exhibit is followed by Opening Through Art with Melissa Brant on June 21 and the Reconciliation Reading Group: Theory of Water: Nishnaabe Maps to the Time Ahead on June 27. Viktoria Brave will also lead English and French tours of the Museum on June 24 at Rose House Museum.
Wellington July 1
The county’s update turns to Wellington on June 30, when the Wellington Street Dance and Fireworks Show begins at 5:30 pm. Cue the Funk will play live at 6:30 pm under the gazebo at Wellington Park, and fireworks are set for dusk at Wellington Rotary Beach.
Canada Day programming in Wellington starts at 10:30 am on July 1 with the annual parade. Music in the Park follows from 12 pm to 2 pm, presented by the Prince Edward County Lions Club and featuring Heartlight. BBQ hotdogs and water will be available by donation, and anyone who wants to join the parade is directed to contact Brenda Little at Brenda.little20@gmail.com.
For readers planning around the schedule, the county’s update gives the practical details in one place: where each event is happening, when it starts and which ones are free. The clearest next step is for parade participants to contact Little directly before July 1.
