Apple released airpods pro 3 firmware version 8.1.41 (8B41) earlier today, and it arrived alongside the same build for the AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C) and the AirPods Pro (2nd generation). Apple’s release notes for the update list only "bug fixes and other improvements," so AirPods owners get a patch with no stated security detail attached.
Marcus Mendes reported the rollout, and the timing matters because Apple pushed a separate Beats Studio Buds update on the same day with a named security fix. For AirPods owners, that leaves the practical question simple: the new firmware is out, but Apple has not said what the changes actually alter on-device.
8.1.41 on three AirPods models
Firmware 8.1.41 (8B41) covers the AirPods Pro 3, the AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C), and the AirPods Pro (2nd generation). That means Apple used one AirPods build across three current earbuds lines instead of splitting fixes into separate versions for each model.
Apple’s notes for 8.1.41 mention only "bug fixes and other improvements." The company did not list any security content in those notes, which is the main limit for users trying to judge whether the update is routine maintenance or something more targeted.
Beats Studio Buds 1B211
Apple also rolled out firmware version 1B211 for the Beats Studio Buds. That update fixes an issue where "an attacker within Bluetooth range may be able to listen through the microphone of a device which is not yet paired and actively seeking pair requests."
Apple identified the issue as CVE-2025-20701 and said, "Apple Software is among the affected projects." It also said the vulnerability is related to open source code, which places the fix in a different category from the AirPods release notes that offered no security detail at all.
Updating Beats on Apple devices
Apple says there is no way to instantly start or push the Beats Studio Buds firmware update manually. Its instructions say a device must have the latest version of iOS, iPadOS or macOS installed and be connected to Wi-Fi before updating Beats headphones paired to an Apple device.
That leaves Beats owners with a slower path than the headline might suggest, while AirPods Pro 3 users get a new firmware number but no published explanation for what changed. The missing piece is whether Apple will add more detail to the AirPods 8.1.41 notes or leave the update description at "bug fixes and other improvements."
