katherine legge’s No. 78 Chevrolet took a hit before Sunday’s Watkins Glen race. Live Fast Motorsports lost pit stall selection after the car failed pre-race inspection multiple times, and car chief Keith Wolfe was ejected for the weekend.

Watkins Glen inspection penalty

The No. 78 was the only car in the field to fail pre-race inspection multiple times ahead of the Go Bowling at The Glen weekend. NASCAR then applied the penalty before the race at Watkins Glen International and later said the car passed inspection after adjustments.

That sequence left the team without one of the few concrete advantages available on a road course. Watkins Glen International has tight corners, heavy braking zones, and limited passing opportunities during long green-flag runs, so where a car stops in the pit lane can shape how much ground it can make back on track.

Keith Wolfe and the No. 78

Wolfe’s ejection removes the car chief from the weekend entirely. For Live Fast Motorsports, that is a direct personnel loss on a team that often fields the No. 78 Chevrolet for B.J. McLeod and other drivers in select Cup Series races.

The penalty was enforced under the 2026 NASCAR rulebook, which has kept inspection pressure high with laser measurements, templates, and body checks. Similar penalties have been handed out at other races this season after repeated inspection failures, and the No. 78 now joins that list after drawing the only multiple-failure mark in the field.

Live Fast entered a demanding road-course weekend already facing a tougher setup battle than the larger organizations around it. Losing pit stall selection and Wolfe’s presence leaves the team with less room to recover if the race turns into a long track-position fight, and Watkins Glen usually does.

The car eventually cleared inspection after adjustments, but the penalty remained in place for the weekend. That leaves Live Fast with the No. 78 in the race, a stripped-down pit advantage, and one less experienced hand on the box when strategy matters most.
