Toronto councillor parthi kandavel said on Sunday that he is under an Ontario Provincial Police investigation. The Scarborough Southwest councillor said he was surprised to learn of it and said he is still learning more about the probe.
Kandavel did not give details about the nature of the allegations. In his post, he said, “I’ve worked hard to earn the trust of the people of Scarborough Southwest, which I take seriously. I’ve strived to maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity and will address any allegations that suggest otherwise.”
Scarborough Southwest council seat
Kandavel has represented Scarborough Southwest since winning a byelection in 2023, when Gary Crawford left City Hall to run provincially for the Progressive Conservatives. He defeated Kevin Rupasinghe by almost 800 votes.
That history gives the investigation immediate political weight. Kandavel has not registered as a candidate as of Friday, and the investigation comes as the municipal elections this fall approach.
OPP response pending
Kandavel said, “I’m still learning more about the investigation and the nature of the allegations, and will share more as I can.” CityNews reached out to the OPP for more details and had yet to receive a response.
For now, the practical question is whether the inquiry changes his election plans. The only firm answer in public is that he has not registered as a candidate, while the investigation remains active enough to shape the race in Scarborough Southwest.
