mads hermansen headlines Cardiff City’s permanent move for Nathan Trott, who has signed a three-year deal after his loan season from Copenhagen. The goalkeeper is tied to the club until the summer of 2029 after helping Cardiff secure an instant return to the Championship.
Nathan Trott and Cardiff City
Trott joined Cardiff City last summer and made 41 League One appearances. He kept 16 clean sheets across that run and was nominated for Cardiff’s player of the season.
The deal was officially undisclosed, but it is believed to be worth £1.5m. Cardiff have turned a successful loan into a permanent signing at the point when the squad moves back up a level.
Championship return secured
That timing matters because Cardiff did not wait to settle the position after promotion. Trott’s season ended with the club back in the Championship, and his new contract gives Brian Barry-Murphy a goalkeeper already settled into the group.
Trott said it was something that he had wanted to get across the line, adding that all of the players were on the same page to get the deal done. He also said he thinks it is the perfect group to be part of.
Trott’s path to Cardiff
Before Cardiff, Trott spent two years in the Valencia youth set-up and five years with West Ham United, where he had loan spells at AFC Wimbledon, Nancy and Vejle. He joined Copenhagen in 2024 before returning to Cardiff on loan last summer.
He said Cardiff’s fans have made it easier for him to play every game, describing the club as a very special environment with a special group of fans and city. He added: “I’m excited for the Championship.”
