Trey yesavage is set for his third start of the season Saturday, and Toronto enters the game with a chance to take the three-game series from the Angels. The right-hander will also face Los Angeles for the first time in his career.
Yesavage and Kochanowicz
Yesavage has opened his season 1-1 with a 0.96 ERA. He goes in opposite Jack Kochanowicz, who is 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA and has a 0-0 record with a 3.71 ERA in three career starts against Toronto.
The Blue Jays won the first game of the series 2-0 on Friday night, then carried into Saturday the chance to secure both the series and the season series. Toronto had already taken two of three games in Anaheim from April 20 to April 22, so this start sits inside a run that has already tilted toward the Blue Jays.
Toronto's early edge
Toronto built Friday's win with two runs in the third inning against Reid Detmers. Kazuma Okamoto drove in the first run with a single, and he now leads the Blue Jays with 24 RBIs.
Detmers lasted 3 2/3 innings and allowed six walks, while Toronto also continued to fight through limited production with runners in scoring position, going 1 for 9. That leaves Yesavage with a useful margin if he can match the run support and keep the game out of a high-leverage bullpen stretch.
Blue Jays roster rhythm
The timing around Saturday's start also lines up with Addison Barger expected back after an April 5 ankle sprain. Toronto gets another arm in the rotation picture with Yesavage, whose 0.96 ERA has kept him in the mix through his first two starts.
For the Blue Jays, the immediate goal is simple: finish the series with a win and leave the Angels with the season edge. Yesavage's third start is the one carrying that chance.
