Hackney council voters took part in the 2026 local elections for all 57 seats on Hackney London Borough Council, with a mayoral election held at the same time to choose the council's leader. Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 7, and the count took place on Friday.
57 Seats Across Hackney
Seats were up for election in Brownswood, Cazenove, Clissold, Dalston, De Beauvoir, Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, Hackney Wick, Haggerston, Homerton, Hoxton East and Shoreditch, Hoxton West, King's Park, Lea Bridge, Leabridge, London Fields, Shacklewell, Springfield, Stamford Hill West, Stoke Newington, Victoria and Woodberry Down. Each ward was represented by either two or three councillors.
The vote covered the full council, which is elected once every four years. Before the 2026 election, Labour held 43 seats on the London borough council.
Friday Count In Hackney
Results for the Hackney local elections were due on Friday from 5pm, after the count began following the close of polls the night before. More than 5,000 council seats were up for grabs across 136 local authorities in England on election day, and mayoral elections also took place in six areas.
For Hackney residents, the immediate result is a new council picture across all wards at once, including the choice of leader through the mayoral contest. The practical next step is the published result stream from Friday afternoon, which will show how control of the council has changed after a full 57-seat contest.
