Polling stations across Yorkshire opened on Thursday for calderdale local elections 2026, and registered voters could cast ballots between 07:00 BST and 22:00 BST. Calderdale was one of five councils holding all-out elections, with voters there able to choose three candidates for their ward.
Calderdale and Yorkshire seats
All-out elections were taking place in Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. In Sheffield and Leeds, a third of council seats were up for election, and voters there were allowed to choose one representative for their area.
The local elections in England covered more than 5,000 seats across 136 local authorities and six mayoral races. In Calderdale, the all-out contest meant every council seat in the authority was being contested at the same time.
Friday counting in Yorkshire
People in England were required to show photo ID before being allowed to vote at the local elections. Counting was expected to begin on Friday, with results expected later that day.
Results from all counts were expected by Saturday, giving voters across Yorkshire a short wait after polling day before the full picture emerged. For Calderdale voters, the immediate step was simple: cast a ballot before polls closed at 22:00 BST on Thursday, then watch for the Friday count.
