Cam York scored in overtime and the Flyers eliminated the Pittsburgh Penguins, then he stayed with Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale afterward in Philadelphia’s dressing room. The goal was series-clinching, and the postgame reunion put three longtime friends at the center of the same playoff night.
York Ends It Against Pittsburgh
York’s overtime winner closed out the series against Pittsburgh and sent the Flyers through after a game that turned on one defenseman’s finish. He had the decisive touch, and the result gave Philadelphia a playoff breakthrough built around a player the team has counted on for puck-moving and big moments.
Earlier this week, York said, "Honestly, it’s kind of felt like a movie almost" while talking about reaching the playoffs with Zegras and Drysdale. He added, "Since the Olympic break, all the big games we’ve played in — and just going through the journey together."
Zegras, Drysdale, York Together
The trio’s bond did not start in Philadelphia. York and Zegras have known each other since they were teenage teammates with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2017 to 2019, and Zegras lived at York’s family’s house for a year after being drafted by the Ducks. Drysdale often visited that house while Zegras was living there.
That history followed them into the Flyers room. Drysdale was traded to Philadelphia on Jan. 8, 2024, in exchange for Cutter Gauthier, and Zegras was acquired on June 23, 2025. York and Zegras are both 25 years old, while Drysdale is 24, and the three lingered together after the win instead of splitting off from the celebration.
Flyers Culture Around Briere
Philadelphia’s front office has treated that kind of connection as part of the build. General manager Daniel Briere has emphasized strong dressing room culture as a pillar of the rebuild, and Noah Cates said of the trio, "Obviously, they’re tight." He also said, "Their energy, their spirits are always high and positive."
That came with a playoff edge, too. The Flyers faced a 2-0 series deficit against the Hurricanes heading into Game 3 on Thursday night, so York’s finish against Pittsburgh and the time the three friends spent together after the game landed inside a larger postseason push. For this group, the next step is not another reunion — it is carrying that same trust into the series that was waiting on Thursday night.
