Polling stations have opened across parts of North-West England for the local elections, giving people searching for voting stations near me access to ballots in all 10 Greater Manchester boroughs and beyond. A total of 461 seats are being contested across 21 councils, with votes to be counted after polls close at 22:00 BST.

Greater Manchester boroughs

People in every one of Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs can vote, with one third of seats contested in all of the area’s local authorities. That covers the full span of the region’s councils and gives voters a single-day chance to shape local representation across the boroughs.

Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire

On Merseyside, Sefton and St Helens are holding all-out elections, with every seat up for grabs in both areas. Knowsley is contesting one third of its seats, while Halton in Cheshire is also contesting a third. In Lancashire, elections are taking place in Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Chorley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Preston and West Lancashire, with one third of the seats contested in each of the seven areas.

Vote count across the region

The local elections cover the biggest set of elections since the 2024 general election, spread across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire. Results are expected to be declared either overnight or later on Friday, after the count begins once polls close at 22:00 BST.
