The final starts at 3 p.m. on the red clay in Paris, which is 1300 GMT and 9 a.m. ET. Zverev is playing in his second French Open final and his fourth major final overall, while Cobolli is in his first Grand Slam final after never getting past the quarterfinals before this week.
Zverev's final pressure
Zverev has reached this stage before and left empty-handed. He lost the 2024 French Open championship match after leading Carlos Alcaraz two sets to one, fell to Dominic Thiem in the 2020 U.S. Open final after going up two sets to none, and lost the 2025 Australian Open final in straight sets to Jannik Sinner.
That sequence gives Sunday a different edge. One more final loss would extend a run that has already included three chances to close out a major title, and this one comes after he has again worked through the field without dropping many sets.
Cobolli's rise in Paris
Cobolli arrives with a smaller résumé but the same opportunity. The 14th-ranked Italian had never been past a Grand Slam quarterfinal until this French Open, then beat Zachary Svajda in the fourth round and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals before reaching the final.
He is also trying to become the first Italian man to win the Roland Garros singles trophy since Adriano Panatta 50 years ago. Panatta comes from the same tennis club in Rome as Cobolli, and tournament organizers have asked him to present the Coupe des Mousquetaires to the champion.
Roland Garros rematch
The matchup is not new. Zverev has won three of his four career meetings with Cobolli, including a straight-sets victory in the third round in Paris a year ago. Cobolli beat him in straight sets in Munich this season, but Zverev answered with another straight-sets win in Madrid.
Both players have dropped only two sets on the way to this final. With Sinner, Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic out of the draw, Sunday puts the title in front of two players who have taken different routes to the same court, and Cobolli's chance to join Panatta will run straight through Zverev's last shot at a first major crown.
