Liam Lawson was summoned to the stewards after running a red light at Monaco, putting the red flag f1 weekend on a sharper edge. He moved past the pit lane exit after the light changed, and he now has to explain the moment if he wants to avoid punishment.
Monaco Grand Prix Friday
Friday at Monaco carried two practice sessions before FP3 and qualifying on Saturday, with the race scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The incident came on a day when Formula 1 teams had already descended on one of the sport’s most historic races, where every pit lane decision gets magnified fast.
Lawson did not have much time to react to the change at the pit lane exit. That is the part the stewards will weigh, because the move came right as the light went red and before the field moved into the next phase of the weekend.
Ferrari And Monaco Pace
Ferrari lived up to the hype in FP1, and Martin Brundle pointed to the team’s strengths through Monaco’s slow corners. “We thought they would be [favourites] coming into this event because their car has been very good through the corners all year.”
He added: “Also the way they have set the turbochargers up on the power unit, plus other aspects.” Brundle then said, “Both drivers are very handy around here too and so, unquestionably, first advantage to Ferrari.” That left Ferrari with early momentum on a circuit where the first advantage can carry deep into the weekend.
Williams And The Weekend Picture
James Vowles also used the Monaco weekend to frame Williams’ progress, saying, “There's no doubt about it we did not bring the car that we had the capability of bringing at the start of the year.” He followed that with, “My ask is a little bit of patience. Watch what we bring over these next races.”
Vowles added, “I have no concerns over Carlos and Alex. They are drivers you can win a championship with.” With Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon still his pairing, Williams was talking about patience and development while the paddock focused on the stewards’ next move for Lawson.
