car check: An Audi and a Toyota Camry collided in Sans Souci on Saturday morning, killing Uber driver Shoaib Hussain, passenger Seamus Duignan and Audi driver Tamati Gilbert. Hussain was 22 and was finishing his final job of the night when the crash happened.
The crash came about 10 minutes after police were alerted around 12.25am to grave concerns about Gilbert’s mental health. Police found him sitting inside the Audi in a driveway at a property in Gymea Bay, but he sped off before they could speak to him.
Hussain’s Final Ride
Hussain was driving weekends for Uber while studying social work, using the work to support himself and send money back to his family in Pakistan. He had begun driving for Uber at the start of 2026. A friend, Qasim Malik, said Hussain was one of four brothers and the second son, and that he had not seen his family or returned to Pakistan in four years.
Malik said, “I am his mate. We chat on the phone every day. He is one of four brothers, the second son. He moved to Australia four years ago to study and hasn't seen his family, hasn't returned to Pakistan in that time.” He also said, “His family are requesting that his body be sent back so they can bury him in Pakistan.”
Gymea Bay to Rocky Point Road
Emergency services received reports about 10 minutes later that an Audi had vaulted over a concrete barrier and crashed into a blue Toyota Camry on Rocky Point Road in Sans Souci, in Sydney’s south. CCTV footage later showed Gilbert driving at considerable speeds in the Audi just moments before the crash.
Duignan was 28 and was returning home after celebrating his birthday at a concert. His brother Sean Duignan described him as “a good bloke, brother and uncle” and “never in trouble, just a good bloke who loved a laugh.”
Duignan Family Inquiry
Kim Duignan called for a full inquest into the crash. The three men killed were Hussain, Duignan and Gilbert, leaving two families to identify victims and begin the practical work that follows a sudden death on a road already tied to police welfare concerns minutes earlier.
