adam macko got his first MLB call-up Sunday, joining the Toronto Blue Jays before their rubber match against the Detroit Tigers. Toronto also placed Tommy Nance on the 15-day injured list with right forearm discomfort, opening a bullpen spot for the 25-year-old left-hander.
Blue Jays Add Macko
The move pulled Macko up from Triple-A Buffalo after he spent Saturday on the taxi squad. For Toronto, it brought a left-handed relief option into the majors at a point when the bullpen needed another arm.
Macko had appeared in 13 games for Buffalo this season, posting a 4.50 ERA and a 1.167 WHIP. He now leaves the Bisons for his first stretch in the big leagues, even though the club has not had to wait long to see what he can carry over from his minor league work.
Tommy Nance Hits Injured List
The roster change came with a hit to the relief group. Nance, a right-handed reliever, was placed on the 15-day injured list after working the seventh inning against Detroit on Saturday and striking out one.
Before the move, he had logged a 3.86 ERA in 21 innings over 20 appearances this season. That makes the timing especially sharp for Toronto, which is trying to keep the bullpen intact while it waits for Macko to settle into a new role.
Macko’s Path To Toronto
Macko’s route to this call-up has run through more than one organization. The Seattle Mariners drafted him in 2019, and Toronto acquired him in 2022 as part of the Teoscar Hernández trade.
He also arrived with recent international work on his résumé. This year, Macko represented Canada at the World Baseball Classic, pitched 2.1 innings across three games, and struck out four without allowing a run.
For the Blue Jays, the immediate next step is simple: see whether the left-hander can hold a bullpen job after moving from Buffalo to the majors. For Macko, the promotion turns a taxi-squad weekend into his first MLB action.
