Annette Bening said dutton ranch episode 3 gave her a larger-than-life Texas businesswoman to play in Beulah Jackson, the owner and operator of 10 Petal Ranch. She said the role drew her in because Beulah carries an ache and longing beneath the ranch authority, setting up a sharper business clash with Beth and Rip on her turf.
Beulah Jackson at 10 Petal Ranch
Bening plays Beulah Jackson, who runs 10 Petal Ranch with her family, and she described the character as a rancher who is longing for love while trying to keep everything together. That tension sits at the center of the part: Beulah is built as a woman with power, but not one with clean control over her own life.
“Beulah, she’s interesting.” Bening said. “She’s a rancher, but she’s longing for love as she wants to keep everything together, which she is unable to do, which is why the show happens.”
Fort Worth and the rancher
Bening said she watched “Yellowstone” before taking the role and was told the story that would be unfolding as well with Ed Harris. She then went to Fort Worth and met a rancher who took her in and showed her around, giving her a working sense of the territory before she stepped into the character.
She also worked through different accents and different people while preparing, and said she studied the level of bling as part of learning how Beulah should look and move. “It was a process of learning on my part, because they were showing me the level of bling, and we didn’t even go as far as we could have gone,” she said.
Chad Feehan and the ranch history
Bening said she worked with showrunner Chad Feehan on the history of the character and the ranch, including Beulah’s history with her dad and the legacy of the ranch. She said that history is grounded in real Texas ranch history, which gives the character more weight than a simple power-player introduction.
The role also arrives with built-in conflict: Beulah is expected to butt heads with Beth and Rip as they try to navigate business on her turf. For viewers, that means Bening’s performance is not just another franchise add-on; it is a new center of gravity for the story, with 10 Petal Ranch as the place where the pressure lands first.
“There’s an ache and longing inside of her, which I found interesting to explore,” Bening said. That is the useful read on her addition: Beulah is being written as a ranch owner with money, family history, and emotional fracture, and the friction with Beth and Rip gives the character a clear business and personal line of attack from the start.
