nicolas raskin was left out of Rangers’ matchday squad for Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Celtic because of a slight hamstring issue. The omission came after claims of a fall out with Danny Rohl, but those were flatly denied.

Raskin and Rohl

Stevie Clifford addressed the speculation directly, writing: “Seen it mentioned a few times on socials today that Nico Raskin has had a fall out with Danny Rohl which is why he was left out.” He then added: “This is completely untrue for what it’s worth”.

Clifford also gave the football reason for the omission: “Nico has a slight hamstring issue, hasn’t trained for the last three days.” That detail explains why Raskin did not make the squad for one of Rangers’ biggest domestic matches.

Rangers Without Raskin

Raskin, 25, had been Rangers’ go-to option for Rohl before the Celtic game, so the absence was not just a routine rotation call. It removed a player the manager had been leaning on before a match Rangers lost 3-1.

The concern now is the recovery window. There is every possibility the injury could keep him out for the remaining two games, and with a World Cup to look forward to in a month’s time, the timing is awkward for a midfielder who may be approaching a busy summer.

Future at Ibrox

The longer view around Raskin is just as sharp. He is not likely to sign a new contract, Rangers may view this summer as the ideal time to cash in on him, and one cannot rule out the possibility that he has played his last game for the club. For Rangers, that turns a one-match absence into a much bigger roster question.
