Thornton police are investigating a homicide after a 34-year-old man was shot just after 3 a.m. Sunday in the 9700 block of Ogden Court in south Thornton. Officers found him lying near a crashed truck after a witness told dispatchers someone was trying to break into a vehicle and shots had been fired.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital, where he later died. The Adams County Coroner’s Office will identify him.
Investigators believe he was breaking into vehicles and tried to leave the area in the truck after being shot. The truck collided with several parked cars before officers reached the scene.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder in the shooting. He was released later Sunday morning pending charges and further investigation.
Thornton police said investigators do not believe the victim and the suspect knew each other. The department listed 720-977-5069 for anyone with information about the shooting.
