eluned morgan led Labour’s list in Sir Fynwy Torfaen as the new Senedd seat was due to declare at about 2pm. The constituency is one of 16 created under wide changes to how the election is organised.

Sir Fynwy Torfaen combines Torfaen and Monmouthshire, bringing Abergavenny, Caldicot, Chepstow, Cwmbran, Monmouth, Pontypool and Usk into one large seat. The declaration was expected at about 2pm, according to the Press Association.

Sir Fynwy Torfaen candidates

Lynne Neagle, the education minister, headed Labour’s list. Peter Fox, the Tory incumbent, was seeking re-election, while Laura Anne Jones, the former Conservative turned Reform UK politician, also hoped to win the seat again.

Anthony Hunt, the Torfaen council leader, was second on Labour’s list. Richard John, the former council leader, was second on the Conservative Party list.

Wales’ 16 constituencies

Wales has been divided into 16 constituencies under the changes brought in for the Senedd election. Each constituency is formed by pairing Westminster constituencies, and Sir Fynwy Torfaen is the result of joining Torfaen and Monmouthshire.

For voters in the new seat, the arrangement means the contest now covers a wider area than the older local boundaries. Anyone following the count in the seat was waiting on the 2pm declaration to see which party’s list rose to the top in the first test of the new boundary map.
