Residents of Bedford have recently received two new grey waste bins as part of an initiative to enhance waste management. These specially designed caddies feature a locking mechanism that ensures the lid remains secure, preventing pests like rats and foxes from accessing the waste.
Features of the New Grey Waste Bins
- Locking mechanism to prevent pest access
- Designed to contain odors and keep flies out
- Can be lined with plastic bags, paper, or newspaper
- Rinsable without needing a liner
Environmental Benefits
Independent councillor Nicola Gribble, who oversees environmental initiatives, emphasized the significance of this new service. “This initiative is a vital step towards reducing our carbon footprint and improving recycling practices,” she stated.
Gribble explained that even small contributions from households can have a substantial impact. “By recycling food waste, residents contribute to generating green energy and supporting local agriculture,” she added. This also helps maintain cleaner and lighter rubbish bins.
How to Request a Bin
Residents who have not yet received their grey waste bins or require a replacement can reach out to the council via the official El-Balad website for assistance.
