ksl reports that Udo Hubert Jumpers, a 59-year-old motorcyclist from Germany, died Tuesday after his Harley Davidson ran off state Route 24 in Wayne County and hit a guardrail. Police said the crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. near milepost 89.

Jumpers was thrown from the motorcycle into the guardrail and died from his injuries at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, according to police.

State Route 24 near milepost 89

The Utah Department of Public Safety said the motorcycle was traveling east when it “failed to negotiate a curve.” Police said the bike then ran off the road to the right before the collision.

The road was closed for approximately an hour while police investigated the scene. That left drivers on the Wayne County stretch of state Route 24 waiting for the road to reopen before continuing through the area.

Wayne County response

The crash adds a clear time stamp to a dangerous stretch of highway travel: shortly after 2 p.m., one rider was thrown from the bike and the route shut down for the investigation. For motorists using state Route 24, the immediate effect was the closure itself and the delay it created.

Police have already described the sequence that led to the death, and the scene response has ended the only immediate disruption named in the report. For readers on that roadway, the practical step was simple: wait for the closure to clear before resuming travel through the area.
