louise redknapp’s eldest son Charley did not take the news well when Jamie Redknapp told him Frida Andersson was pregnant. Jamie said the reaction came when he picked Charley up from school and explained that the family was about to have a younger brother.
“It didn't go down that well with Charley, I've got to be honest. I went to pick him up at school and tell him Frida was pregnant [and] it went down like a lead balloon, if I'm honest,” he said on The Romesh Ranganathan Show. He added, “I got it, I totally understood it because his world had been turned upside down - you're married, everything feels straightforward, and then you meet someone else and you get married again.”
Charley’s reaction in school pickup
Jamie framed the moment as the hardest part of telling his children they were getting a younger brother. That reaction fits the shape of a family change that started in 2017, when he and Louise Redknapp split after 19 years of marriage, leaving Charley and Beau to adjust to a new household structure before Raphael arrived in November 2021.
Beau had a softer response. Jamie said “it was a little bit easier” with his younger son, which put Charley’s response in sharper relief and showed that the two brothers handled the same announcement differently.
Raphael turns four next month
Jamie and Frida’s son Raphael will celebrate his fourth birthday next month, and the family has already moved from the shock of the pregnancy announcement into daily sibling life. Jamie praised Charley in a July Instagram post for being “the best big brother” to Rapha and Beau, a public shift from resistance to responsibility.
He also wrote, “Such a great role model; they're so lucky to have you. Now that you're 21, I'm hoping you'll finally start beating me at golf... but I won't make it easy! Can't wait for a few days on the course together.” The post tied Charley’s 21st birthday to the role he now plays in a family that has settled into its new balance, with the older brother no longer reacting to the news but living with the result.
