Canada left its World Cup debut with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday, and fifa matches gave the home side its first World Cup point. Cyle Larin scored in the second half to rescue the result after Bosnia struck on its only corner kick.
Larin And Promise David
Larin finished Canada’s equalizer and celebrated with Promise David after the goal. The point mattered in a match where Canada had nine corner kicks to Bosnia’s one, yet still had to settle for a draw.
Canada began to take control after about 20 minutes and spent much of the night on the front foot. The numbers backed that up, but Bosnia made its one set-piece chance count, and Canada had to chase the game from there.
Toronto Stadium Crowd
Inside Toronto Stadium, people in red outnumbered people in blue by about 10-1 on Friday. The support never turned into a halftime singalong to Summer of ’69, but the crowd still watched Canada claim a result that had long looked out of reach.
Maxime Crépeau, Tajon Buchanan, Tarik Muharemovic and Amar Memic were all part of a match that ended with Canada level after 90 minutes. For Canada, the first FIFA World Cup point arrived in its first World Cup match, and Larin’s second-half goal is the one that carried it there.
