West Brom are set to sign carter pinnington in a permanent deal after beating Premier League clubs and other Championship sides to his signature. The 19-year-old Liverpool defender is leaving a club where he had been involved in first-team sessions during the 2025/2026 campaign.

Pinnington signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in 2024 and has played for England at under-15, under-16 and under-18 level. He is also eligible to represent South Africa.
The move gives West Brom another young defender as they continue to reshape the squad after avoiding relegation to League One in the 2025/26 season. The club have already backed that reset by appointing James Morrison as head coach on a two-year deal.
Morrison’s Summer Rebuild
West Brom secured Championship survival with a 10-game unbeaten streak under Morrison, but the transfer business has not stopped with Pinnington. They are also in advanced talks to sign Chelsea forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
That puts the club into a clear summer pattern: sign young players with room to develop, and do it before rival clubs can move. Pinnington’s switch is the cleanest example so far, with West Brom winning the race for a player who had been on the edge of Liverpool’s senior picture.
For West Brom, the immediate benefit is simple. A permanent deal brings a 19-year-old defender into the group now, rather than waiting for a loan cycle or another window, and it fits the club’s attempt to stabilize after a season that spent too long near the bottom.
