nbc cancels 9 tv shows as the network reshapes its lineup for the 2026-27 broadcasting calendar, with The Hunting Party among the cuts after two seasons. Jeff Bader said NBC was looking for places where it can grow the network and needed to do better in that time period.
Jeff Bader and The Hunting Party
Bader, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy, said last month, "We’re looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better," and also, "Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there." NBC had even considered a third season on the broadcast network or a move to a Peacock original before moving on.
The Hunting Party ended after two seasons, a practical sign that NBC’s schedule math now favors different programming bets. For viewers, that means the show is out of the lineup rather than waiting on a longer internal review.
Stumble and Brilliant Minds
Earlier this month, NBC also canceled Brilliant Minds and Stumble, adding to the network’s wider reset. Stumble had a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes from fans, so its cancellation is the sharpest reminder that audience enthusiasm does not always protect a show when a network is recalibrating around scheduling and growth.
That same June run also sent Law & Order: Organized Crime out after Season 5, Access Daily out with its parent program, The Steve Wilkos Show out after 19 seasons, and The Kelly Clarkson Show out after 7 seasons. NBC canceled eight other shows in addition to The Hunting Party, which is a clean break from a more crowded lineup toward a smaller, different mix.
NBC Sports in 2026-27
NBC is leaning heavily on its sports content for the 2026-27 broadcasting calendar, so the cancellations point to where the network expects its strongest returns to come from next. For anyone tracking NBC’s entertainment slate, the useful takeaway is simple: scripted and daytime pieces tied to this reset are giving way to a schedule built around a different priority set.
By June 7, 2026, NBC had already moved through the bulk of that overhaul, and the cuts now set the shape of what viewers will actually see in 2026-27.
