caissie levy and the Broadway revival of Ragtime won the 2026 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical on June 7, 2026. The result caps a run that began at Lincoln Center Theater after the production moved from a 2024 New York City Center Encores! Gala Presentation to the Vivian Beaumont Theater.

Radio City Music Hall win

The award was handed out at the 79th Annual Tony Awards ceremony at Radio City Music Hall, putting Lear deBessonet’s production on top of the revival field. Levy plays Mother in the new staging, with Joshua Henry as Coalhouse Walker Jr., Brandon Uranowitz as Tateh, Nichelle Lewis as Sarah, and Ben Levi Ross as Younger Brother.

Ragtime is based on E.L. Doctorow’s novel and follows three fictional families chasing the American Dream at the dawn of the 20th century. That setup gives the revival a built-in scale that suits awards voters: a large ensemble story, a big orchestral sound, and a property with an established Broadway legacy.

From Encores to Broadway

The production’s route mattered as much as the trophy. It began as the 2024 New York City Center Encores! Gala Presentation, then transferred to Broadway the following year and opened on October 16, 2025 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.

A 28-piece orchestra and original orchestrations by William David Brohn kept the staging closer to the musical’s full-bodied original sound than many leaner revivals. The 1998 Broadway production had already won four Tony Awards, so the new win extends a title that has stayed awards-friendly across generations.

August 2 at Vivian Beaumont

The Broadway run is scheduled through August 2, 2026 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, giving ticket buyers a fixed window to catch the Tony winner in New York. For Lincoln Center Theater, the prize strengthens the production’s commercial hand in the final stretch of the engagement and gives the revival a clean marketing line: Tony Award-winning through the summer.

For anyone deciding whether to go, the answer is straightforward. Ragtime now has the award, the cast, and the run date to justify a trip before August 2.
