Playground Games' Fable has been pushed to February 2027, and Xbox said the reboot will now get a later launch window. The company moved the game out of the holiday crush and promised a new look on June 7 at Xbox Games Showcase.
Asha Sharma and the delay
Asha Sharma helped oversee the announcement late Friday afternoon, when the official Xbox account said the move was about launch timing as much as development timing. Xbox said, "In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we're moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves."
The post also said, "This is year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy," a line that places Fable inside a crowded release calendar rather than a clean runway. For Xbox, the practical effect is simple: one of its bigger upcoming titles is no longer competing for attention in the holiday window.
April reports on GTA 6
Reports in April said Playground Games was worried about Grand Theft Auto 6 having an impact, while the official Fable account was still pointing to autumn. That mismatch is the friction point here: the project was being described publicly as still on track for fall, then moved to February 2027 after a period when another blockbuster release was already shaping expectations around the market.
A first proper look at Fable arrived at the Xbox Developer Direct at the start of 2026, so the delay does not erase momentum around the game. It does, however, stretch the gap between that reveal and the release window, which gives Xbox more time to reset the campaign around a cleaner date.
June 7 at Xbox Games Showcase
Xbox said, "We're excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7." That appearance now becomes the next concrete checkpoint for the reboot, and the date matters because it is the first new public beat after the delay.
February 2027 is the release month that now defines the project, and that is the answer players need if they were expecting Fable this autumn. Xbox has chosen spacing over speed, and for a major first-party game in a packed year, that is the safer play.
