Chad Dallas is headed to the majors. The Toronto Blue Jays selected the 25-year-old right-hander to their roster Wednesday, and he is expected to make his big-league debut Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.

Dallas Reaches Toronto

The move gives Toronto another arm while the club sorts through uncertainty in its rotation. Dallas joined the team’s taxi squad in Atlanta on Wednesday before getting the call to the major-league roster later that day.

He spent parts of the last five seasons in the Blue Jays’ minor-league system after Toronto picked him in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. This season at triple-A, he made 10 appearances and eight starts, posted a 4.50 ERA, and struck out 38 batters in 36 innings pitched.

Juenger Moves Back

Hayden Juenger went the other way in a corresponding move, with Toronto optioning him to triple-A Buffalo. Juenger had made his major-league debut for the Blue Jays on May 31 against the Baltimore Orioles and gave up three runs in one inning of work.

Before that debut, he had put together a 3.15 ERA in 17 appearances with triple-A. He also threw a scoreless inning against Atlanta on Wednesday before being sent back down.

Andrews Leaves Roster

Tanner Andrews was designated for assignment in the other roster move. The right-hander had made two appearances for Toronto, both in the late-May series against the Miami Marlins.

Toronto’s next move comes Friday, when Simeon Woods Richardson is scheduled to join the club. For Dallas, Thursday is the first chance to turn a five-season climb through the minors into a major-league debut.
