justin thomas changed putters and moved into contention. He shot 67-68 at Quail Hollow and sat in third place after two rounds of the Truist Championship, two shots behind leader Sungjae Im.

Thomas texted Scotty Cameron rep Drew Page with a simple request: “Just give me Cam's putter.” He got it on Monday, then used it in the first two rounds while he and Cameron Young were paired together.
The two also wore the same shoes on Thursday, and Thomas laughed off the coincidence with his own version of a confession: “It's like, I promise I'm not trying to copy everything you do, but I'm maybe trying to copy everything you do. I don't know.”
Six starts after surgery
The result matters because Thomas has played only six times this season after a November microdiscectomy. He has one top-10 finish, a T8 at THE PLAYERS, and said after Friday’s round, “I feel like I'm swinging it a little better.”
He added, “I feel like I've had a fair amount of tournaments that I've been playing pretty well, I just haven't really had anything to show for it.” He also said, “That's just how the sport is regardless if you have been healthy for 20 years or just coming off of surgery.”
Saturday with Alex Fitzpatrick
Thomas was scheduled to play alongside Alex Fitzpatrick in Saturday’s final group with 36 holes left at a course where he won the 2017 PGA Championship. Young entered the week with wins at THE PLAYERS and a Signature Event, including a six-shot victory at last week’s Cadillac Championship, and his putter was good enough for Thomas to borrow when the leaderboard tightened.
