king green is trying to stack fights before time runs out. The UFC lightweight veteran said Wednesday he wants to stay active, keep taking bouts, and chase a BMF belt shot before he turns 40.

He was scheduled to face Jeremy Stephens at UFC 328 on Saturday night, but the bigger point came in what Green said about the clock on his career. He said he is not chasing rankings or titles, has never fought for UFC gold, and wants to make the most of what he sees as the final stretch.

King Green and Jeremy Stephens

Green said he fought about a month or so ago, then took a week off to spend a weekend with his kids before getting back to work. He said he told the UFC they had 10 days to let him heal and find him another fight.

“To keep it real bro, like, I just put whoever they put on the list. I just fought like a month or so ago, I got a week off, I went with my kids spent a weekend with my kids,” Green said Wednesday. “Then back to work and whoever they put on the list is was whoever they put on the list.”

UFC 328 and the 10-day window

The urgency was clear in another part of his comments. “I’m trying to roll them out. I’m getting owed, I got limited time to do this, you better get me while I’m here. So I told the UFC hey you got 10 days to go let me heal up and go find me another fight,” he said. “Or I’m going to go get lasik surgery on my eyes and it’s going to take a while. I’ve got to hurry up before I turn 40.”

That line fits the way Green described his goals. He said he never really had his eyes on any titles until the BMF belt was created, and said he would love a shot at it.

Nate Diaz and the BMF belt

Green tied that idea directly to Nate Diaz, saying Diaz created the belt. “My big bro is Nate Diaz. He created the belt. It’d be an ultimate honor if I could fight for the BMF belt, grab that sh*t, and be like ‘hey Nate. This is yours. This belong to you.’ Give it back to him,” Green said.

For a fighter listed at 34-17-1, the message was not about waiting for a perfect path. It was about fitting in as many fights as possible before 40, and making one of those fights count enough to land the belt he says he has wanted since the BMF title appeared.
