A competitor died after a medical incident during rally isle of man on Friday, ending competitive action on a day that began with closed-road stages across the island. Motorsport UK and Manx Auto Sport said the competitor had passed away during the event, and the stage where it happened will not be run again.

Manx Auto Sport Statement

The joint statement said they were “deeply saddened to confirm that a competitor participating in the Manx National Rally today has passed away following a medical incident during the event.” They also said the “stage on which the incident occurred will not be run again,” and that they “extend their sincere condolences to the family, friends and the wider rallying community at this difficult time.”

170 Teams On Closed Roads

This year's rally drew a record entry of 170 teams and was due to run over 22 special stages on closed roads across the Isle of Man. Competitive stages began on Friday morning, shortly after 09:00 BST, after a shakedown session in the north of the island on Thursday evening.

The event is one of two rallies held on the Isle of Man each year, and the stage decision means the course itself will not continue unchanged after the fatal incident. For competitors still on the entry list, the key change is immediate: one of the planned special stages is out of the rally.
