Brandon Lockridge was out of the lineup Monday against the Cardinals, and the change came as Jackson Chourio returned from the injured list. That left Lockridge on the outside of a Milwaukee outfield that has been giving him steady work all season. His playing time now looks headed toward a shorter-side role.

Chourio Reclaims Left Field

The Brewers reinstated Chourio on Monday, and he went straight into left field for his 2026 debut. Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick filled the other two outfield spots, which pushed Lockridge out of the starting group for the game.

That alignment tells the story of the roster shift. Lockridge had been part of the rotation throughout the season, but Chourio’s return changes the mix immediately and leaves fewer everyday openings for him against right-handed pitching.

Milwaukee's Outfield Rotation

Lockridge’s season-long run of steady playing time makes Monday more than a one-game absence. He had been receiving regular starts in the Milwaukee outfield, but the club chose Mitchell, Frelick and Chourio for the three spots once the injured-list move was made.

The practical effect is a tighter lane for Lockridge. The short-side platoon role now appears to be the path forward, which means fewer chances to start when the Brewers set their lineup against righties.

For Milwaukee, the decision restores one of its outfield pieces without disturbing the other two. For Lockridge, it is the clearest sign yet that his role has changed from steady starter to a more limited share of the outfield rotation.
