A high meadow student emergency interrupted a Wednesday field trip at High Meadow after a student from another school district became unresponsive while Wethersfield 8th graders were there. High Meadow staff and emergency responders moved quickly, and staff escorted the Wethersfield students away from the area.
Wethersfield 8th Graders
School officials told 8th grade families that students remained safe and under staff supervision throughout the incident. In a message to families, officials said, "the school understands that witnessing emergency personnel respond to a situation can be unsettling for students".
The field trip involved Wethersfield 8th graders, and the school said transportation continued according to scheduled plans because an earlier departure could not be arranged. School staff will check in with students when they return to school and provide support as needed.
Springfield Public Schools
Springfield Public Schools said a student was taken away in an ambulance. The district did not confirm the school or condition of the student.
Families were encouraged to connect with their child and reach out if they have concerns after the field trip. The immediate priority for staff was moving the Wethersfield students away from the scene while emergency responders handled the incident at High Meadow.
