Rail disruption Stevenage Peterborough shut all lines between the two stations after a person was hit by a train, forcing delays and cancellations across several operators. Emergency services were at the scene while rail traffic was stopped on the route.

Grand Central, Hull Trains, LNER, Lumo and Thameslink were affected. Disruption was expected until 14:00 BST, and Thameslink said diversions were adding up to an hour on some journeys.

Stevenage and Peterborough

Rail operators told customers to check before they travel. Grand Central, LNER and Lumo also said tickets could be used on alternative routes and services, giving passengers another option while the line remained blocked.

The closure covered all lines between Stevenage and Peterborough while emergency services worked at the scene. For passengers booked on Grand Central, Hull Trains, LNER, Lumo and Thameslink, the interruption spread across more than one service group rather than staying on a single route.

Thameslink Hitchin Peterborough

Thameslink told travellers to delay journeys between Hitchin and Peterborough, and several stations were not being served. That left the line open to fewer direct journeys even where travel was still possible, with diversions taking some trips up to an hour longer.

The practical choice for passengers was immediate: check before leaving, use alternative routes if their ticket was accepted, or delay the trip if they were travelling on Thameslink between Hitchin and Peterborough. The disruption was set against a fixed window until 14:00 BST, which gave travellers a time point for when service changes were expected to ease.
