Nick Kyrgios will return to the ATP circuit in Stuttgart, Germany, and the 31-year-old’s first tour match since January comes against French No.34 seed Corentin Moutet. The Boss Open appearance ends a stretch that began after his first-round exit at the Brisbane Open and keeps his push toward Wimbledon in motion.
Stuttgart Draw Opens With Moutet
Kyrgios will meet Moutet in the first round at the Boss Open, with the Australian trying to build momentum after months away from ATP singles. His last singles ATP win came in the first round at the Miami Open in 2025, before the stop-start run that followed.
That sequence includes his first-round loss in Brisbane in January and his decision to withdraw his Australian Open wildcard entry when he did not have enough confidence in his body. He played doubles and mixed doubles at that tournament instead, then kept working back toward singles.
Wimbledon Still Sits Ahead
In March, Kyrgios said, "All I do now is play for the fans," and added, "I still have a massive following. Now, I just enjoy going out there for the fans and putting on a crazy show, seeing the kids out there, that’s basically why I’m playing now."
He has battled significant wrist and knee issues since 2023, which have shaped how often he can compete and how he has tried to manage the rest of the year. He also said in January, "When you’re at the top of the sport, I genuinely thought I was unbeatable," before adding, "I’d go out on court and I thought, ‘no one can genuinely beat me’."
The Stuttgart field also includes James Duckworth, Rinky Hijikata, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Alexander Bublik. Kyrgios was runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2022, and the grass-court event is the next step in a second-half push that he has tied to Wimbledon.
He said in March that he has no plans to retire any time soon, a useful marker for a player whose comeback has been built around getting back onto court rather than around a full schedule. For now, the immediate test is Moutet in Stuttgart and whether Kyrgios can turn this return into a clean run on grass.
