Apple opened the ios 27 release date cycle with the first developer beta shortly after the WWDC 2026 keynote wrapped. The same build wave also includes iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. For developers, that means the work starts now, while everyone else is still waiting for Apple’s next public test window.
Apple Developer Program access
As of June 8, the first iOS 27 beta is available only through the Apple Developer Program. Users who want it go to Settings, then General, then Software Update, then Beta Updates, and select iOS 27 Developer Beta. Apple says users do not need to pay just to download the betas, although the company may still direct them to a payment page because the same path is used for developers who want to sell apps in the App Store.
macOS 27 Golden Gate steps
The macOS 27 Golden Gate beta follows a separate path in System Settings, then General, then Software Update, where users click the small i icon next to Beta Updates, select macOS Developer Golden Gate Beta, and then Done. That split matters for anyone testing both Mac and iPhone software, because the setup is not identical across Apple’s operating systems.
Late July public beta
Apple will likely make a public beta available in late July before a public release in the fall. That leaves early access in developers’ hands for now, while non-developers have to wait for the broader test build. The unresolved piece is simple: Apple has pointed to late July for the public beta, but it has not set a firmer public date for that wider rollout.
