Bradley Johnson has reportedly been axed from Emmerdale, and vinny dingle is set to disappear from the soap after seven years. The move lands inside a wider cast squeeze tied to ITV cuts, with the show now facing another visible change later this year.
2019 start for Vinny Dingle
Vinny first joined the village in 2019, when Johnson arrived with the return of Mandy Dingle. That gives the character a long enough run to matter to the soap’s structure, not just to one storyline, and it makes the exit more than a routine turnover in a daytime cast.
Last year, Johnson tackled Vinny’s sexuality storyline, a run that pushed the character into one of the more sensitive parts of the show’s recent writing. He said: “When I first got told it was a complete shock to me, as I had no idea that was the avenue they were gonna go down with Vinny,” and later added: “But once Sophie and Laura told me the storyline, it was quite exciting! For Vinny, [and] everything he's been through in the past with Liv, I think it's a really exciting story to tell of a young lad who's confused, really.”
ITV cuts hit the cast
The Sun reported that the cast are “shocked that bosses decided to axe him but it’s all part of the ITV cuts and they still need to trim back the cast”. ITV declined to comment when approached by Radio Times. That combination is the real industry signal here: this is not just a storyline exit, but a budget-driven adjustment that appears to be affecting named characters rather than hiding behind vague restructuring language.
Nick Miles is also reported to be saying goodbye to Jimmy King after 20 years in the village, while Olivia Bromley is set to leave as Dawn Fletcher later this year. Miles is still filming scenes at the serial drama’s studios in Leeds, and he will be on screen until the autumn, which means the show is spacing out departures rather than clearing them all at once.
Leeds filming, autumn on screen
For viewers, the practical reading is straightforward: Vinny’s exit is part of a broader cast reset, and the losses are being staggered across the rest of the year. The soap is keeping Miles on screen until the autumn, so the cast shake-up is still unfolding rather than finished.
