West wittering in West Sussex was included on the 2026 Blue Flag list when the Blue Flag Foundation revealed this year’s awards. The beach joined 30 Blue Flag winners near London, placing it among the sites that met the award’s standards for water quality, waste management, climate action and biodiversity protection.
Blue Flag Foundation list
The foundation’s release listed 188 Blue Flag Awards across the UK and Ireland this year. West Wittering was one of the beaches near London to make the list, alongside other coastal spots that met the programme’s criteria.
For visitors, the designation gives a practical signal about the beach they are choosing. The award is tied to conditions on the ground, including water quality and how waste is handled, rather than to scenery alone. West Wittering is described as having shabby-chic beach huts and salt marshes.

That mix of scenery and status is what gives West Wittering its place on the list. It is not the only beach in the region to be recognized, but it is one of the 30 near London that received Blue Flag status this year.
The key point for anyone heading there is simple: West Wittering now sits within a group of beaches that the foundation says meet the Blue Flag standard this year. The award is part of a broader list of 188 sites across the UK and Ireland, and West Sussex now has one more name on it.
