Colt Lumpris flipped his commitment from Alabama to Michigan Football on Saturday, giving the Wolverines a four-star tight end in the 2027 class. Michigan now has 15 total commitments after landing Lumpris, its first tight end in that cycle.

Colt Lumpris Changes Course

Lumpris had been pledged to Alabama since December before the switch. He is ranked No. 268 overall on the Rivals Industry Ranking, making him one of the more notable additions in Michigan's 2027 group.

Michigan's staff kept pushing for him even after his Alabama commitment, and the timing of the move lines up with Alabama hiring a new tight ends coach this offseason. That change opened the door for other programs to stay on him, and Michigan stayed in position long enough to land the flip.

Michigan Adds Its First Tight End

The addition gives Michigan its first tight end in the 2027 class and fills a clear roster lane in the recruiting cycle. Kyle Whittingham and Freddie Whittingham were central to the pursuit, and Lumpris became the 15th commitment in the class after choosing Michigan.

For Michigan, the value is in the combination of position fit and class momentum. A four-star tight end with a No. 268 national ranking adds weight to a group that already sits at 15 commitments, and the Wolverines got him after he had already spent months tied to Alabama.

Alabama's coaching change helped create the opening, but Michigan was the program that finished the job. Lumpris' flip gives the Wolverines a new piece at a position they had not yet landed in 2027, and it changes the shape of their class immediately.
