Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Toronto on Saturday as tempo toronto faced up to 50 millimetres of rain by the end of the day. A low-pressure system was bringing heavy rain to parts of southern Ontario, with the wet weather expected to intensify into the evening.
Toronto rain Saturday
About 10 to 20 millimetres of rainfall were expected to start in the morning, then build later in the day. Around 8 p.m., waves from Lake Ontario might reach or exceed two metres, adding to the risk along the shore.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority said the forecast and higher-than-average water levels increased the chances of flooding. It also said there was a higher risk of flooding and erosion along the lake shore because of strong winds and large waves.
Lake Ontario advisories
Two advisories were in place for Lake Ontario’s shoreline and watershed conditions until late Sunday evening. Rain or drizzle was expected to end near noon on Sunday, but a 40 per cent chance of showers remained for Sunday night.
A few lingering showers could stick around Monday, with a 30 per cent chance of rain. Sunshine was set to return Tuesday, with a high of 25 C.
Toronto weekend forecast
The weather agency said the system moving through southern Ontario would bring periods of heavy rain north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario before tapering off into drizzle. Rogers Stadium said Bruno Mars’ show was rescheduled because of the weather and the concert was now set for May 31.
For Toronto residents and anyone planning time near the lake shore, the practical window is Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, when the rain, wind and higher water conditions overlap. By Sunday afternoon, the rain was expected to ease, but the shoreline advisories were still set to run through late Sunday evening.
