Óscar Trejo will play his last match at Vallecas when rayo vallecano - villarreal arrives, and the club is planning a tribute for the midfielder. Rayo already has safety secured, so the night belongs to Trejo rather than the table.
Trejo and Vallecas
Iñigo Pérez made the club’s intent plain before Villarreal: "Mañana es el día de Óscar Trejo, cualquier otra noticia queda en un segundo plano". That sets the tone for a farewell built around one player who has become the foreign appearance leader in Rayo Vallecano history.
Trejo’s numbers explain why Vallecas is treating this as a final home salute. He has played 333 matches for Rayo, scored 45 goals and delivered 26 assists, while collecting two promotions, a Segunda División championship, a Copa del Rey semifinal run, qualification for the Conference League and a final in Leipzig.
From Mallorca to 2017
His connection with the club began in the 2010/11 season, when he arrived on loan from Mallorca in Segunda División and worked under José Ramón Sandoval. Sandoval later said: "Yo le dije a Felipe Miñambres que me trajeran a Trejo porque parecía un dibujo animado de lo bien que jugaba, se parecía a Messi y era increíble".
Trejo returned from Toulouse in 2017 and, after nine consecutive seasons back in the squad, will now close that chapter at Vallecas. At the Días del Rayismo on Friday 15 May, football pitches were renamed with his name, and he said: "Cuando dependió de mí, vine".
Balliu's message
Iván Balliu added to the farewell mood with a message aimed at supporters before Villarreal: "Kit de supervivencia para la despedida de Óscar Trejo: Camiseta del Rayo, bufanda, pañuelos, gafas de sol para disimular el llanto, ibuprofeno para el dolor emocional. No estamos preparados". Rayo says Trejo is an institution and that its doors will always be open to him, but the last ovation as a Vallecas player now waits for this match.
