Real Oviedo - Alavés will come with more than a result attached to it. On the afternoon of the match at the Carlos Tartiere, several Oviedo players are set for their last home appearance, and the squad is already moving toward a broad reset for next season.
Eight loan players will return to their original clubs on 30 June. That group includes Fede Viñas, Nico Fonseca and Santiago Colombatto, who are expected to go back to Club León, as well as David Carmo to Nottingham Forest, Moldovan to Atlético de Madrid, Javi López to Real Sociedad, and Álex Forés and Thiago Fernández to Villarreal.
Cazorla and the Carlos Tartiere
Santi Cazorla is among the names with uncertainty around his situation. Lucas Ahijado also remains in the picture after a renewal offer was on the table on 7 May, and the club sees an understanding as likely in his case.
The list of exits is already wider than the loan departures. Bailly, Dendoncker and Sibo will not continue at Real Oviedo, and Bailly will not be able to say goodbye on the field because he is injured. Dendoncker and Sibo will start on the bench.
Oviedo’s next roster cut
Only Álex Forés has a purchase option, but Real Oviedo will not exercise it. That leaves the club heading into the summer with fewer moving parts than the matchday lineup suggests and more open decisions than the final home crowd will be able to settle in one afternoon.
Ten players already have contracts in force for next season: Aarón Escandell, Nacho Vidal, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Rahim, Luka Ilic, Alberto Reiba, Ovie Ejaria, Hassan and Chaira. Borbas is on loan until January, and Oviedo does not count on him for Segunda, with the most likely outcome a move to one of the Grupo teams in the coming months before he returns to Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil.
June 30 and beyond
The squad picture is shifting before the next Segunda campaign takes shape. Real Oviedo has already closed the signings of Pablo Sáenz from Granada and Youness from Ceuta, while the final home game against Alavés now doubles as the point where several current players begin to disappear from the Carlos Tartiere picture.
