Andre Dozzell signed a two-year contract with D.C. United on May 6, 2026, and the English midfielder is set to join the club on July 1. The move gives the Black-and-Red a player with 202 English Championship appearances and adds an international roster spot once his paperwork is cleared.

D.C. United Adds Dozzell

D.C. United said the deal runs through the 2027-2028 season and includes an option for the club to extend it for 2028-2029. Dozzell will occupy an international roster spot, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

Dr. Erkut Sogut said: "We are thrilled to be adding a central midfielder with Andre's quality and experience. Andre is a highly technical two-way player with great vision who does important work for his team for 90 minutes and we are excited he has chosen to join our family."

Portsmouth Form

Dozzell arrives after two seasons with Portsmouth FC, where he made 79 appearances across all competitions, scored four goals, and recorded two assists. In 2025-2026, he finished his second season with Portsmouth with 38 appearances, two goals, and one assist.

He originally signed with Portsmouth on Aug. 5, 2024, after leaving Queens Park Rangers, then debuted four days later in a 3-3 draw against Leeds United. On Feb. 15, 2025, he scored his first goal for Portsmouth in a 2-0 league win over Oxford United.

QPR And Ipswich

Before Portsmouth, Dozzell spent three seasons at Queens Park Rangers after joining on July 1, 2021. He made 98 appearances, scored two goals, and recorded three assists across all competitions for QPR, and his first season included 33 appearances and one assist.

His professional path started at Ipswich Town, where he joined the academy at age eight, won Academy Player of the Year for the 2015-2016 season, and signed for the first team at 16. He made his professional debut on April 16, 2016, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday, and later recorded 93 appearances, three goals, and two assists across five seasons.

Dozzell also has England youth international experience at U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, and U-20 levels beginning in 2014. He was part of the England U-19 side that beat Portugal 2-1 in the 2017 UEFA European U-19 Championship final.

For D.C. United, the immediate issue is clean timing: the transfer is done, but he cannot join the roster until the visa and transfer certificate are in place. Once that clears, July 1 is the date that puts him into the group and gives the club another central midfield option for the stretch ahead.
