Roy Botfield has applied to Conwy County Council this month to demolish vacant St Katherine's Church on Bryn Pydew Road in llandudno Junction and replace it with a new house. The planning file says work has not started and the site can be seen from a public road.
St Katherine's Church plans
The application would clear the church building and change the site from a disused religious property to a home. Botfield, from Colwyn Bay, has also included vehicle access, permeable paving within the site, a detached garage, a treatment plant and other landscaping in the proposal.
If the council approves the plan, the new building would have painted off-white rendered walls, a natural slate roof and black UPVC casement windows. The application also says no public space would be lost.
Conwy County Council review
Botfield did not seek pre-application advice from the local planning authority before submitting the scheme. The file now sits with Conwy County Council's planning department, which will likely send it to a future planning committee meeting at the authority's Coed Pella HQ.
For residents near Bryn Pydew Road, the practical change is straightforward: the proposal would remove a vacant church and replace it with a private house, along with parking and access work on the site. The committee stage is the point where the council will decide whether that change can go ahead.
